How to Become a Vetted Linguist with Traduality

Traduality lets linguists find jobs posted by customers. To be hired as a linguist on Traduality, you must first become vetted (verified). This guide shows you how to create a Traduality account and become a vetted linguist.

Create An Account

Visit the sign-up page. Under “What type of account are you creating?” choose “Freelance linguist.”

After creating your account, you should see a notice at the top of the page that reads, “You need to become a verified professional linguist to unlock all features and apply for jobs. Click here to begin.” The notice will look like this:

Click the link to go to your linguist profile.

Submit Vetting Documentation

On your linguist profile, scroll to the “Vetting Documents (private)” section. There should be four rows in the list:

  • Traduality Independent Contractor Agreement [Sign Required Document]
  • W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number) [Sign Document (US only)]
  • W-8BEN (Certificate of Foreign Status) [Sign Document (non-US only)]
  • Proof of Professional Experience [Upload Required Document]

Document #1: Traduality Independent Contractor Agreement

Start by clicking the “Sign Required Document” button next to “Traduality Independent Contractor Agreement.” Review the contract carefully and sign it.

Document #2: United States IRS tax forms

Next, fill out the appropriate tax form.

If you work in the United States:

  1. Click the “Sign Document (US only)” button next to “W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number)”.
  2. If you need help filling out the W-9 tax form, contact Traduality support.
  3. After signing the form, you should not fill out the W-8BEN tax form.

If you work outside the United States:

  1. Click the “Sign Document (non-US only)” button next to “W-8BEN (Certificate of Foreign Status)”.
  2. If you need help filling out the W-8BEN tax form, contact Traduality support.
  3. After signing the form, you should not fill out the W-9 tax form.

 

Document #3: Proof of Professional Experience

Finally, click the “Upload Required Document” button next to “Proof of Professional Experience.” You must submit documentation demonstrating at least 3 years of experience as a full-time professional linguist. You can submit multiple documents, including:

  • University degree with a major related to translation or interpretation.
  • Letter of recommendation from a paying customer who has used your services for at least 3 years.
  • Invoices from paying customers from 3 different years.

You must submit at least one file proving professional experience but may submit more than one if needed.

 

Verification

After you submit your vetting documentation, Traduality administrators will review your documents.

If you receive an email saying that you have been vetted, congratulations! You can start searching for jobs on Traduality.

If you receive an email saying that your vetting documentation has been rejected, you can update your documentation on your linguist profile. Your rejection email should explain why your documents were rejected so that you can provide more complete documentation in the future. A Traduality administrator will review your updated documentation.
